Advanced Dental Care

Bad breath isn't normal! Discolored teeth and swollen, bleeding gums also mean pain in your pet's mouth. This is the beginning of periodontal disease and can lead to permanent damage, including tooth loss. Routine dental care is a necessary part of good overall health care. Dental exams are performed at your annual check up and vaccination appointment, but can also be scheduled anytime with one of our nurses as a complimentary visit to assess what shape your pets teeth are in. This will allow us to more accurately create your healthcare plan for cleaning and treating the problem. Our Doctor has been a member of the American Veterinary Dental Society since 2002. He has the ability to perform similar services to that of your own dentist. Their teeth are ultrasonically scaled, polished and treated with fluoride. Our hospital also has the capability to do dental x-rays as an option to help further evaluate periodontal disease in your pet. We are one of the few hospitals in this area with a veterinary dental xray machine. Non surgical and surgical extractions, Endodontics (Root capping, root canal therapy), restorative applications and impressions are all additional services our specially trained staff and Doctor have the ability to perform. Having your pets teeth cleaned is a same day procedure. The same precautions taken with our surgery patients are performed during dental procedures.

As a part of all dental procedures, we offer our "Smiles Club". This is a complimentary package of monthly visits for tooth brushing and evaluation. Your pet will also go home with his own dental care package including a toothbrush, toothpaste, dental chews and a special dental diet sample. Your monthly visits will give you a chance to talk with the nurse about any concerns you may have about home dental care, as well as give us the opportunity to give you suggestions about how to specifically care for your pet's teeth and gums. Another new product we offer at our clinic during dental procedures is OraVet. This is the first Plaque Prevention System designed for pets. It significantly reduces plaque and tartar formation by preventing bacteria form attaching to your pet's teeth. Ask one of our clinic staff about OraVet and how it can help you in the fight against plaque and gum disease in your pet.

Dental Grading
The pictures above illustrate peridontal disease of a dogs mouth. Grade one being the least amount of tarter and decay and Grade four being the highest level of peridontal disease and damage. Grades one and two are easily treated and corrected with proper dental home care and regular prophlaxis (professional cleanings) by your veterinarian.

Grades three and four requre much more ongoing treatment. Our goal is to address problems before the condition becomes uncorrectable.
